The pause before the next thing

Most of our days are a chain of next things: the next email, the next errand, the next conversation. We move from one to the other without a breath in between, and by evening we wonder where the day went and where we went with it.

This week, I invite you to try something small: a pause between things. Not a long meditation, just a moment before you open the next tab, start the car or walk into the next room. In that moment, you get to arrive. You notice how you are, not only what you have to do.

Flourishing rarely arrives in big leaps. It grows the way a tree does, in small rings, season by season. A pause is one of those rings.

This week's practice: three breaths

Before your next task, stop. Take one breath to notice your feet on the ground. Take a second breath to notice how you feel, without changing anything. On the third breath, ask yourself: what do I need right now? Then carry on, a little more present.

With warmth,
Bita
